PEG CH2COOH Acid
PEG CH2COOH acid represents a variant of PEG compound featuring a terminal carboxylic acid. Similar to the more common PEG-acid with a terminal propionic acid moiety, the terminal carboxylic acid in PEG CH2COOH, or its activated esters, readily engages in a stable amide bond formation upon reaction with primary amine groups. Diverging from the propionic acid moiety, which may undergo retro-Michael addition and fragmentize under specific conditions, PEG CH2COOH with an acetic acid moiety (CH2COOH) offers enhanced stability. When selecting the appropriate PEG-NHS for a given application, it is imperative to consider both the reactivity and stability of these NHS esters in aqueous media. In aqueous environments, high reactivity may not necessarily confer an advantage, as the simple hydrolysis of the active ester competes with amide bond formation. Therefore, optimizing reaction yields requires a judicious selection of pH, co-solvent, and carboxylic acid analogue. Similar to other PEG acids, PEG acetic acid finds broad applications in medical research, drug-release, nanotechnology, new materials research, cell culture, and the synthesis of ligands and polypeptides.
